To find out about the history of Banbury take a tour of the new museum on Spiceball Park Road, running alongside the canal. The Banbury Museum takes you on a trip back in time to the Civil War and Victorian Britain. Temporary exhibitions also add to the appeal, as does the café. Tooleys Historic Boatyard, conveniently located right next door to the Banbury Museum, is another must see sight. Tooleys is Britains oldest working dry dock and dates back to 1790. Tours are available on Fridays and Saturdays, which take one hour and include a short boat ride.
For evening entertainment check whats on at the Mill Community Education and Arts Centre during your stay. As well as numerous classes and workshops there an interesting array of shows from dance to drama, hosted at the comfortable 200-seat theatre.
Shopping is a major attraction in Banbury, courtesy of the Castle Quays shopping centre. In this smart new centre youll find all the top high street brands you would expect. In addition theres a local market outside the centre every Thursday and Saturday, whilst the first Friday of the month sees the local farmers market pitching up.
